"These are a few of my favourite things..."

Looking back, 2017 was an interesting year, to say the least! We began the year feeling dreadful for our friends across the pond when an orange lump was inaugurated as President... And we ended the year still feeling sorry for them- that he hadn't been impeached yet! But politics aside, let's get down to business. I like making lists. So, here are some (very short) lists, which I am calling my "Top Threes of 2017" (original, I know):

My Top Three Books:

What a great one to start off with! Anyone who knows me knows that I love to read 😊

3) Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow

Being a huge fan of the musical "Hamilton", I was ecstatic to receive this book for Christmas last year. Despite only having read about 80 pages all year, I'm really liking it! The only reason it is taking me so long to read is that I can only read a few pages at a time before my brain starts overflowing from an information overload!!! There are so many long words that I have to Google, too!

2) Wonder by R.J. Palacio

This is an amazing book, and if you haven't read it, I highly recommend that you do! It tells the moving story of a young boy with facial differences starting school for the first time. It was turned into a movie at the end of 2017, which is equally as good.

1) Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare

The latest addition to the Shadowhunters' World was no disappointment. But I'm going to stop there before I give away any spoilers!

My Top Three Movies:

3) Paddington 2

This is the sequel to the hilarious 2014 movie. I love these movies because they are a perfect mix of comedy, adventure and mystery. My whole family enjoys them, too, which is a rarity!

2) Wonder

As I mentioned earlier, Wonder was made into a movie, starring Jacob Tremblay and Julia Roberts, at the end of 2017. The movie is beautifully crafted, with an all-star cast, and portrays this inspiring story perfectly!

1) Pitch Perfect 3

I love the Pitch Perfect franchise! Yes, they're cringy and cheesy, but they're also movies about friendship and... a cappella! My passions in life are theatre, music and film, so any films that combine these are sure to be a hit for me!

My Top Three Moments:

3) Rachel Tucker concert

My sister won 2 tickets to see her idol, Rachel Tucker (ex-Elphaba in Wicked), in concert in Birmingham. Although I'm not as dedicated a fan as my sister is, I saw Rachel as Elphaba in December 2016, and I was blown away! Her vocals are astonishing, as is her acting! The concert was in a lovely, intimate venue (PizzaExpress Live Birmingham) and we were sat in the second row. The concert was amazing, and so was the fact that we met Rachel afterwards!! (Ignore how weird I look in this photo!!!)

2) Phantom of the Opera

My grandma took my mum, my sister and I to London in August, to see the Phantom of the Opera. I had never seen the show before, but I had listened to the soundtrack soooo many times! The show was mesmerising and now I really want to see it again! We stayed overnight in a gorgeous hotel, too- the Guoman Tower Hotel, overlooking Tower Bridge and the Thames.

1) Idina Menzel concert

For my birthday, my parents got me two tickets to see Idina Menzel at the Royal Albert Hall in London! If you don't know who Idina is, she originated the role of Elphaba in Wicked, starring in the Broadway show for several years. She also starred as Maureen in Rent (my favourite musical!) Oh, and did I mention, she's my idol?!? I took my sister with me, like she took me to see Rachel Tucker, because Idina means a lot to both of us. And... Oh. My. Gosh. I HAD THE BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE!!!
